In 2024, Alfa Laval’s share has seen good price growth and has outperformed the index. The share price was recorded at SEK 464.60 (404.40) at the close of the last trading day of the year, representing an increase of SEK 59.20 since the start of the year. This is equivalent to growth of 14.68 per cent, which is comparable with OMX Stockholm Industrials, the industry index for industrial shares in which Alfa Laval is included, which was up 7.24 per cent in 2024. The Stockholm Stock Exchange as a whole (OMXSPI) increased by 5.73 per cent. Therefore, Alfa Laval outperformed both the industry and the stock market with twice the price growth. The year’s highest closing price for Alfa Laval’s share, SEK 494.70, was recorded on 6 January. The year’s lowest closing price, SEK 366.80, was recorded on 17 January. At the end of the year, Alfa Laval’s market capitalization amounted to SEK 191.2 billion (166.74). The Alfa Laval share is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm and is included in the Large Cap segment of the Stockholm and Nordic stock exchanges, as well as OMXS30, which includes the 30 most traded shares in Stockholm.

Long-term total return

Since Alfa Laval was relisted on the Stockholm Stock Exchange on 17 May 2002, the share, including reinvested dividends, has returned 3,035 per cent. Measured over the listing period, this gives an average annual effective return of 17.34 per cent. This can be compared to an effective annual return of 10.96 per cent for the Stockholm Stock Exchange during the same period (SIX Return Index).

The share’s turnover

Alfa Laval’s share is traded not only on Nasdaq Stockholm but also on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Global Markets, the London Stock Exchange and Tradeweb APA, to name but a few of the major alternative marketplaces. In 2024, the Stockholm Stock Exchange accounted for 25.78 per cent (25.08) of all trading in the share. Trading on CBOE Global Markets was greatest, at 53.57 per cent (52.95). The turnover of Alfa Laval’s share decreased in 2024, amounting to 543 million shares (643). This meant that the share turnover rate decreased in 2024, to 1.31 times the number of outstanding shares (1.56). In 2024, the average number of trades in Alfa Laval’s share also fell to 2.16 million shares per trading day (2.56), which includes all trading venues. Trading in the share represented a total transaction value of SEK 239.40 billion (236.78).

Dividend policy

The objective of the Board of Directors is to regularly propose a dividend that reflects the Group’s performance and financial status, as well as current and anticipated capital requirements. Taking into account the Group’s cash-generating capacity, the objective is to pay dividends equivalent to 40 to 50 per cent of net income over a business cycle. For 2023, the Board of Directors therefore proposes a dividend of SEK 8.50 per share (7.50). The proposed dividend is equivalent to 44.5 per cent of profit per share (43.7), adjusted for surplus values.

Share capital

The quotient value amounted to SEK 2.70 (2.70) per share at the end of the year. All shares have equal voting rights and provide the same entitlement to the company’s assets. There are no outstanding options or other instruments that could result in dilution for shareholders. The total number of shares at the end of the year amounted to 413,326,315, the same as at the start of the year.

Shareholders

At the end of 2024, Alfa Laval had 56,542 shareholders (54,098), representing an increase of 2,444 shareholders (147). The ten biggest shareholders controlled 60.72 per cent of shares (61.48). The biggest shareholder is Winder Holding AG, which acquired all shares from Tetra Laval B.V. on 28 February 2023. The ten biggest shareholders at the end of 2024 are the same as in the previous year.
